Addiscombe Environmental Consultants Limited are specialists in noise measurement, noise modelling and noise control. Our extensive list of clients and previous projects demonstrates the broad reach to which our services extend; from local developments to global-scale, government commissioned, constructions. We provide technical advice on noise and vibration and act as expert witnesses for planning permission appeals.
At AECL we have extensive knowledge of construction plant activity and individual items of equipment used on site. Our experience and familiarity with construction techniques puts us in the perfect position to produce noise measurement reports which can be used in conjunction with noise modelling to design noise control strategies. Our work in the construction industry often requires us to submit applications for prior consent for works on construction sites under Section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act (1974).
Noise measurement is required on industrial sites and commercial premises to identify whether or not the noise limits for the site are being adhered to. If a problem exists then AECL can provide detailed noise control analysis which pinpoints those sources of noise which require treatment. The various potential noise control options will be produced to include a cost-benefit analysis.
Employees working with exposure to noise are at risk and therefore noise measurement surveys need to be completed to determine the level of exposure. This process can be performed on an individual or for the entire workforce. Exposure is measured against two factors; noise level and duration of exposure. Once the calculations have been made AECL can advise on noise control methods ensuring the Noise at Work Regulations (2005) are upheld.
Noise measurement is also required:
- On petrochemical plants to ensure ongoing compliance with noise limits.
- As part of sound insulation testing in accordance with Approved Document E.
- To produce noise surveys in respect to noise and vibration from road and rail transportation.
- In the monitoring of ground vibration and other ground borne noise as a result of various construction activities, blasting, tunnelling and the operation of machinery.
The principles of noise control are not only used in creating solutions to existing noise problems, they are also an essential part of project planning:
- AECL has created noise control designs for petrochemical installations; through pre=FEED, FEED and EPC; numerous projects worked on, from small expansions to huge scale grass roots projects.
- Noise modelling during a development’s planning stage allows us to assess where noise control is required and options will be the most effective and efficient.
