Environmental Impact Assessment

An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is often necessary before work on a project can commence as the data gathered highlights all the potential issues where the environment could be affected by the development, both during construction and once it is complete. Depending on the results of the assessment those people proposing development can determine whether to proceed with the work or not. At AECL we are able, through our network of associate consultants, to offer full environmental impact assessments on virtually all issues.

Noise assessments, whilst still undertaken at the planning stage of a development, look more specifically at the impact of the noise generated by the site once work gets underway. Those developments which are potentially noise generating will require a noise impact assessment which looks at:

  • The site ambient noise level
  • Anticipated noise of development (via noise modelling)
  • The impact of this noise
  • What options are available, and which are most effective, in controlling this noise

When producing noise impact assessments it is also important to take into account those developments which themselves are noise-sensitive, and which will therefore be affected by the ambient noise in the local area. AECL can advise you in all aspects of noise assessments and full environmental impact assessments.

For a greater understanding of the stages and processes involved in noise impact assessments take a look at the Dubai Environmental Noise Survey solution we completed in September 2005.
