Construction Crane Noise Measurements

Addiscombe Environmental Consultants has provided noise and vibration consultancy services to Amec Group Limited on the construction of two major extensions to the Docklands Light Railway.

The first extension, from Silvertown to London City Airport, was completed recently and opened to the public at the end of 2005.

AECL is currently providing services for the New Woolwich Thames Crossing, which will link King George V dock in Newham to Woolwich Arsenal Station in Greenwich, via a new tunnel under the Thames.

This project has provided particular challenges in terms of minimising noise and vibration impacts because the tunnelling must be carried out on a 24-hour basis for safety reasons.

AECL has been responsible for the preparation of all Section 61 consents under the Control of Pollution Act and this has entailed extensive noise modelling and the recommendation of noise control measures in order to ensure Best Practicable Means.

We have also undertaken noise and vibration monitoring and have advised on monitoring solutions.
